This was our second stay at The Bear's Paw and- 15 months after our first visit - we wondered if it'd be as good as the first.

Happily it was. The charm of The Bear's Paw is its warm, welcoming atmosphere; it's ideally situated just off the M6 in a little village where any stresses and strains of driving can be forgotten in the cosy bar and the comfy rooms.

We were 45mins late for our dinner reservation due to bad Easter traffic; no problem, we were seated at once with Matt making sure we had our drinks really quickly to help with the de-stressing process! Our food was amazing, the duck I ordered simply yummy. Then upstairs to sleep in the lovely soft bed, in a spotlessly clean room, with some very nice toiletries in the bathroom.

If I was hunting for faults, I'd be pushed; breakfast was delicious and the staff charming. I'm really glad that our second visit here was just as good as the first.

I've probably eaten in most of the pubs within a good few miles of the Bear's Paw, but this place rises above them all in terms of quality, service and ambience.

My wife had the braised blade of beef, served with creamed mash potatoes, confit onions, button mushrooms and pancetta with a red wine jus. I could see from my side of the table it was a good choice. The meat was perfectly cooked and came apart at the merest touch. I opted for the loin of venison - mouth wateringly good, and our son went for the steak burger with bacon, melted cheddar cheese, chips and onion rings. For a simple dish, the burger is so well presented, on a slate along with a similarly fashionable vessel for the chips. On arrival it was immediately stripped of anything remotely green and healthy by the lad, and consumed with vigour and lots of ketchup.

With hindsight, we should have ordered some vegetable sides but instead we finished with a cheese board and a couple of chocolate sundaes. Delicious.

Service was excellent. Table staff are young but polite, efficient, and are eager to make sure everything is just right for you. Waiting time for food was around 30 minutes (Friday night). Looking forward to our next visit.

Had a meal on Saturday night here, as I had been recommended the food. The starters were all excellent, and two of us had the 'steakstone' main meal, where the steak is served raw on a heated stone to be cooked to your own preference. This was not something I had experienced before, and was a great steak! Although fairly full, the desserts were of the same high quality. The different draught beers on offer were also a great selection.

Have visited The Bears Paw many times, the latest being for our evening meal on Saturday night. We have always enjoyed the food and found this inn to be an excellent all round option. It remains exactly that for us. Superb menu and superb quality with excellent service

Had a lovely evening at the Bears Paw. Started with drinks in the bar comfortably seated by the roaring fire. Our table had been reserved at 7.30pm but we were running late so we asked to be seated a little later, astonishingly we were informed that the table was ours for the entire evening which took any pressure from rushing. Got ready in a beautifully decorated room, then had an amazing dinner. I have food allergies but was able to choose from a variety of dishes on the menu, which I normally do not have the luxury. At the end of the evening had an extremely comfortable sleep in a superior room. Breakfast fantastic, again great choice and a fantastic staff service with attention to detail. Came away feeling relaxed and forgetting about work!! Would highly recommend.

Our bedroom was great with a big comfy bed, plenty of space and a warm, well equipped shower room. The next morning there was a lovely view out over the church and then downstairs for a good breakfast, Mr Starke was pleased to see kippers on the menu, they're not allowed at home!
All of the staff were very warm and welcoming and pleased to help. It's also really great to be able to take a dog into nice surroundings, but if you're not a dog lover don't imagine the rooms show any signs of animals, ours was spotless (and hairless).
All in all we had such a good experience that we are thinking of returning, to explore a little of Cheshire rather than just as a stop on the road.
